The following Educational and Skill-building summer camps and activities for children from four years old through seventeen, are sponsored by The Woodlands Township Parks & Recreation Department. Come To The Zoo With Us - Kids love to draw animals! Young artists (ages 8 - 13) will imagine themselves at the zoo as they learn to draw a variety of different animals. On the first and second days, we will draw giraffes, lions, tigers, birds and more. Their final day will result in one large scene of the zoo divided into several habitats and incorporating the many animal friends they have learned to draw. There will be realistic and graphic style drawings. Held July 5 - 7 (Wed - Fri), from 9:00 AM - noon at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $139 per child for residents; $149 for non-residents.

 

Favorite Apps and Video Games - Art is all around us, including on phones and online! Campers ages 8 - 11 can join Young Rembrandts for a workshop mimicking! Every day, students will learn new illustrations and coloring techniques inspired by popular video games. Artwork is inspired by pixel block characters, plants, zombies and many more classic apps and games. If your child loves to game or draw, they’ll have a blast putting their own personal touches on some of these favorites! Held August 7 - 11, from 9:00 AM - noon at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $200 per child for residents; $210 for non-residents.

Engineering For Kids
Jr. Makers & Inventors Workshop - Younger campers (entering Pre-K - 2nd Grade), will discover how a wind-up toy works and design their own drawing robot. Boys and girls will invent new machines, bring their creations to life with littleBits electronic building blocks, and explore creative design solutions using the Engineering Design Process. Reflective thinking and problem solving skills are enhanced through these fun, age-appropriate, inquiry-based, hands-on, STEM related projects. Held July 24 - 28, from 9:00 AM - noon at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming; fee: $220 per child for residents; $230 for non-residents.

 

Advanced LEGO WeDo Robotics - Designed for students (entering Pre-K - 2nd Grade) who have attended Introduction to LEGO WeDo Robotics Camp, campers will explore more advanced LEGO WeDo concepts. Students will develop more complex models, such as a tower crane, an intelligent house, a Ferris wheel, and a car. Prerequisite: Introduction to LEGO WeDo Robotics (offered previous years) or equivalent experience. Held July 24 - 28, from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming; fee: $220 per child for residents; $230 for non-residents.

 

Jr. Makers & Advanced WeDo Full Day - Make a day of it by signing up for both Jr. Makers & Inventors Workshop and Advanced LEGO WeDo Robotics. Fee: $310 per child for residents, $320 for non-residents.

 

3D Modelling & Printing Minecraft® Creations - Using the engineering design process, campers ages 8 - 11 explore 3D printing and Minecraft to both represent boundless opportunity for creating even our wildest of ideas! Explore the basic concepts of 3D printing and computer aided design, or CAD, to bring their most awesome Minecraft creation to life! Design their own 3D model in preparation for real 3D printing! At the end of the camp, they will walk away with their own models, using a 3D printing pen, and their own Minecraft 3D model in a digital file that is ready for 3D printing! Campers can also continue to improve their designs at home using the same TinkerCAD modeling software they will learn at camp! Held August 7 - 11, from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming; fee: $205 per child for residents; $215 for non-residents.

Superhero Science - Campers ages 4 - 8 join the PSK superheroes! Save the day using slimy science, engineer escape routes, construct sidekick robots, and solve a new case each day. Each camper creates their own comic book tale of their adventures to take home at the end of camp! Held 9:00 AM - Noon, July 10 - 14, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $245 per child for residents; $255 for non-residents.

 

Crazy Construction - Campers ages 4 - 8 will enjoy a week of epic engineering, electronics and crazy construction. Campers learn basic engineering concepts, explore electronics, build giant creations, and are introduced to robotics, basic programming and more! Engineers create a digital photo book of their daily creations to take home. Held 1:00 - 4:00 PM, July 10 - 14, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $245 per child for residents; $255 for non-residents.

 

Make a full day of it and sign up for both Superhero Science from 9:00 AM - noon, and Crazy Construction from 1:00 - 4:00 PM; fee: $457 per child for residents; $467 for non-residents.

 

Silly Space Tales - Campers ages 4 - 8 will 3..2..1.. blast off into an adventure full of space! Explore tons of hands-on science experiments, learn all about space, meet robotics aliens and more. Astronauts keep a digital story of their space adventures to take home! Held 9:00 AM - Noon, July 24 - 28, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $245 per child for residents; $255 for non-residents.

 

Jungle Adventures - Learn all about animals, robotics and more in our Jungle Adventures! Meet Nile the crocodile, Brian the Lion and their friends as they introduce campers (ages 4 - 8) to engineering, basic programming, and a wild jungle journey. Daily adventures are captured through pictures that go home at the end of camp. Held 1:00 - 4:00 PM, July 24 - 28, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $245 per child for residents; $255 for non-residents.

 

Make a full day of it and sign up for both Silly Space Tales from 9:00 AM - noon, and Jungle Adventures from 1:00 - 4:00 PM; fee: $457 per child for residents; $467 for non-residents.

Lego Tech Time Machine - Kids ages 3 - 7 will transport to another dimension with the LEGO Tech Time Machine! Travel backwards and forwards through time exploring LEGO robotics; from prehistoric days to medieval times to the Wild West, and then onward to a future space age! Little ones will enjoy this LEGO journey, building simple mechanisms and robotics to learn about each time period, animals, catapults, rocket ships and more! Held 9:00 AM - Noon, June 9 - 23, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $205 per child for residents; $215 for non-residents.

 

Fairytale Fine Arts - Art, music, drama and dance are the focus of this fairytale-themed camp! Students ages 4 - 8 will enjoy singing, dancing, hands-on art, and the basics of acting – expression, self-confidence, communication and fun! Every day will be a new learning experience in the realm of fine arts. Held 1:00 - 4:00 PM, June 9 - 23, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $205 per child for residents; $215 for non-residents.

 

Lego Tech USA - Kids ages 3 - 7 will travel on an all-American road trip through LEGO USA, and explore some of America's favorite things, such as cars, sports and space! Campers will have fun with LEGO building from simple machines to basic robotics for each road stop and tourist attraction. They'll participate in map activities, technology discovery, creative play and more. Held 9:00 AM - Noon, July 17 - 21 at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $205 per child for residents; $215 for non-residents.

 

Digital Media Mystery - Campers ages 7 - 12 will solve the mystery of digital media, and have fun learning behind the scenes secrets of digital concepts in photography and movie creation! Put the clues together to discover animation, green screen technology, photo transformation and more! Children will utilize a variety of digital media applications, such as Photoshop and Movie Maker to create their own multimedia mysteries! Held 1:00 - 4:00 PM, July 17 - 21 at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $205 per child for residents; $215 for non-residents.

Discovery Kids
harry potter summercamp in the woodlandsCalling All Muggles! - Training begins by dividing students into "houses" with the sorting hat. Students ages 5 - 12 will make dragon drool, experiment with "potions," engage in duels, make wands, play Quidditch and make Butterbeer and chocolate frogs. Held July 31 - August 4, from 9:30 AM - 21:30 PM at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming; Fee: $130 per child for residents, $140 for non-residents.

Calling all future Project Runway contestants! Future fashionistas ages 8 - 12 will graduate from playing dress up to designing their own fashions at Fashion Designer Camp. They will express themselves with their own fashion sense following the same design principles used by professionals. This includes basic sketching techniques, coordination of colors for the best effect and mixing textures and patterns for perception and scale. Cultural fashion history will be applied to all the girl’s individual style and portfolio. Designs come to life with beautifully patterned fabric, ribbons, sequins, jewels and oodles of other embellishments. Collaborative "design team" challenges make this hands-on, minds-on adventure into the world of design very exciting. For young child's safety, no sewing is practiced in this class. Children and Barbie will have a great time learning to dress for occasions appropriately, practice good manners, make new friends, the importance of school work, how to use money, planning for careers, attending social functions, hearing great stories, practicing talents, art and much more! Non-stop activities and fun learning adventures are all geared toward self-esteem development in this class. Your child's certified teacher has developed a rich and meaningful curriculum full of supporting activities and objectives. Hot Wheels World of Discovery - Endless tracks and obstacles course await every Hot Wheels car lover ages 5 - 7 as they discover the world of physical science. What goes up must come down... or does it? Momentum, force and friction are just some of the concepts they will understand as cars acrobatically fly before them. Measuring length and weight in various units will help in the identification of the fastest, most efficient car on the block. Mega Loop Mayhem, Shark Cliff Hanger, Wolf Mountain and hundreds of cars are just some of the play equipment that will have your child yearning to come back each day! Hot Wheels Rock! Play Doh Science - Look no further for a world of excitement, creativity and science exploration. This class is designed to inspire creation of things past, present and future. Your child ages 5 - 7 will explore dinosaur adventures, prehistoric volcanoes, animals, food, transportation and our solar system. Add numerous Play-Doh sets to this exciting equation, and your child will find science fun like never before. Artistic and social development will engage daily creations in a very moldable way! Held 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM, July 31 - August 4, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $130 per child for residents; $140 for non-residents.

 

Your Creative Expression - and - Look At Me! I'm An Author - Designed for campers ages 6 - 12, this class is about turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. By using visual and auditory skills through project-based expression, your child will reach all their creative inner abilities. By using various materials, your child will put together artwork, comic strips, scrapbooks and even fun fashion creations. But that's not all! Little authors will be in our midst. This class inspires a higher order thinking by learning how fun writing can be. Students will be able to show their unique expression through their own writing. By the end of the week, little authors will be thrilled to showcase all of their distinct and individual expressions. Held 2:00 - 4:00 PM, July 31 - August 4, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; fee: $130 per child for residents; $140 for non-residents.
