Early Child Development Activities and Classes

There are a number of activities and events that are sponsored by the Township throughout the year. All events and activities presented by The Woodlands Township Parks & Recreation Department that require a fee can be paid online at their registration page. January - February

kids cooking classes in the woodlandsPre-K Cook & Play with Cook, Learn, Grow! - Young chefs ages 4 and 5 will love this play and cooking based class. Class will start with early literacy themes and finish with culinary creations designed around each lesson. Sample themes: ABC-123s, Rolling in the Dough, Book Cooks, Fun with Food. Classes held on Mondays, January 8 - February 12 from 4:00 - 4:45 PM at the Bear Branch Recreation Center. Fee: $185 per child for residents, $195 for non-residents.


January - June



Teaching the art of dance for over 25 years in The Woodlands, Ms. Debi is a classically-trained dancer and studio owner, and has a degree in dance education.


Little Movers Dance Class - A first time dance experience! Boys and girls ages 3 - 5 learn to move within a nurturing environment. A fun time to run, jump and spread their wings to fly. This program is designed for the very young to experience dance movement such as skipping, turning, leaping, and also working within a group setting. Basic dance terms and words are used each week as they'll dance through a syllabus designed to spark the imagination and capture each child's heart. Each class consists of ballet, tap, creative dance, and basic mat gym skills to build agility and a strong body. Required dance attire for boys: white T-shirt, blue or black pants or shorts; for girls: pink leotard, pink tights, black tap shoes. Classes held from 3:45 - 4:30 PM Wednesdays, January 3 - May 23, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; and Thursdays, January 4 - May 24, at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming. Fee: $65 per child per month for residents, $75 per child for non-residents.


Little Flippers Gymnastics - Little ones ages 3 to 6 will learn mat based gymnastics and tumbling skills, in a 30-minute class that meets once per week. Classes will use mats, wedges, bars and beams, for an all-around first-time experience. This class is designed to begin the development of fine and gross motor skills, strength, flflexibility, balance, as well as basic tumbling and equipment skills and gymnastics terminology. Benefits of this class include the development of a strong work ethic and a focus on group participation for little ones, with lots of encouragement, smiles, and hugs! This class is a fun introductory experience. Attire: shorts, T-shirt, or gym pants. Classes held from 3:15 - 3:45 PM Thursdays, January 4 - May 24, at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming. Fee: $65 per child per month for residents, $75 per child for non-residents.


Soccer 4 Tots - Your child will get a "kick" out of this indoor program! Participants will learn how to pass, dribble, trap and shoot the ball; short-sided games will be played. Parent participation is required and shin guards are mandatory. Classes for 3½ - 5 year-olds from 9:50 - 10:30 AM on Saturdays January 6 - 27; February 3 - 24; March 3 - April 7; April 14 - May 5; or May 12 - June 2 at the Bear Branch Recreation Center (no classes March 17 or March 31). Fee: $50 per child for residents, $60 for non-residents, per session.


Hot Shots - A great introduction to passing, dribbling, shooting and rebounding. Little athletes will love getting a taste of basketball, and working as a team. Your hot shot (ages 3 - 5) will love learning new skills through a variety of fun activities. Held from 10:40 - 11:20 AM on Saturdays January 6 - 27; February 3 - 24; March 3 - April 7; April 14 - May 5; or May 12 - June 2 at the Bear Branch Recreation Center (no classes March 17 or March 31).. Fee: $50 per child, per session for residents, $60 for non-residents.


Road To Elite Cubs Program - What better way to find out what sport a child wants to play! This year-round developmental sport and fitness program teaches children ages 2 1/2 - 6 the fundamentals and mechanics of seven different sports while improving their three key areas of overall development: Gross motor skills, physical fitness, and mental fitness. The seven different sports are basketball, baseball, soccer, football, volleyball, hockey, and lacrosse. Classes held between 9:30 - 10:15 AM on Mondays at the Bear Branch Recreation Center and Wednesdays at Recreation Center at Rob Fleming. For Mondays, choose between January 8 - 29; February 5 - 26; March 5 - April 2; April 9 - 30; or May 7 - June 4. For Wednesdays, choose between January 10 - 31; February 7 - 28; March 7 - April 4; April 11 - May 2; or May 9 - June 30 (No classes week of Spring Break or on Memorial Day). Fee: $60 for residents, $70 for non-residents, per child, per month.


Baby Ballet - Toddlers ages 2 - 3½ will learn great pre-ballet technique and politeness while enhancing your child's imagination in this introduction to the wonderful world of dance, including proper dance technique, terminology and dance etiquette. Listening skills, sharing and waiting turns help little ballerinas in and outside of the dance class. Pink ballet slippers and tights, and black leotard, as well as hair in a bun are required. Tutus are okay! Classes held Wednesdays or Thursdays, January 10 - May 23 or January 11 - May 24 from 10:30 - 11:00 AM at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming. FEE: $60 per child, per month, for residents; $70 for non-residents.


Toddler Ballet & Tap - Little ones ages 3½ - 5 will be introduced to proper ballet/tap technique, terminology and etiquette taught focusing on listening, following directions and waiting turns. The class builds self confidence and a love for the arts. Black leotard, pink tights and leather ballet shoes, hair in a bun, and black tap shoes required. Children can wear any tutu they like! Classes held from 11:00 - 11:45 AM Wednesdays, January 10 - May 23, or Thursdays, January 11 - May 24 at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch. FEE: $75 per child per month for residents; $85 for non-residents.


All classes are geared towards the joy of learning dance and performing on stage. Caroline Batson is a degreed dance professional and has 30 years experience.


Toddler Time - Are your children tired of playing at home with the same old things? Let your little ones ages crawling - pre-school have fun with new toys and equipment, and get some adult conversation for yourself! Parent supervision required. Choose from Tuesdays, January 9 - May 1 at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch; or Thursdays, January 11 - May 3 at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming. Toddler Time is held from 10:00 AM - noon at both locations. A new theme each week! Week of January 10th: Inflatable Fun!; February 12th: Won't you be Mine; March 26th: Easter Eggstravaganza (featuring an egg hunt); and April 30th: Love for Mom. There is no Toddler Time during the week of Spring Break. Fee: $3 Drop-in or $10/month


engineering for kids programs in the woodlandsEngineering for Kids; Curious Engineers - Children are naturally curious about the world they live in. This class builds on that curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on learning to children ages 3 1/2 - 6. Through both open and focused exploration, your child will create a variety of projects which expose them to the world of engineering. The goal is to foster creativity and confidence! Classes held 8:30 - 9:30 AM on Saturdays, January 10 - May 12, at the Bear Branch Recreation Center. No classes March 10, March 17, or March 31. FEE: $70 per child for residents, $80 for non-residents.


beginners tennis lessons for toddlersTeddy Tennis - A fantastic fun new way to encourage children aged 2 1/2 – 6 years old to get active and learn to play tennis. It works by combining music, pictures, and teddy bear stories into a totally interactive learning adventure that all young children love. All equipment will be provided for each child to participate. Classes for kids ages 2 1/2 - 3 are held from 4:00 - 4:45 PM; ages 4 - 6 held from 5:00 - 5:45 PM on Tuesdays at Terramont Park and Thursdays at Timmaron Park; Choose from January 29 - February 19; February 26 - March 26; April 2 - April 23; or April 30 - May 21. No class held week of Spring Break. Fee: $72 for residents, $82 for non-residents, per child, per session.


February - April

Fury Mini-Sluggers - Held on Tuesdays at the Alden Bridge Sports Park, Little sluggers ages 4 - 6 will learn the fundamentals of T-ball including catching, throwing and running the bases. Participants must bring their own mitt.

Select from two, month-long sessions: February 6 - 27; or April 3 - 24 from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. Fee: $65 for residents, $75 for non-residents, per child per session.
