Early Child Development Activities and Classes
There are a number of activities and events that are sponsored by the Township throughout the year. Unless otherwise noted, all activities and programs are held at the Recreation Center, located adjacent to Bear Branch Park at 5200 Research Forest Drive in Cochran's Crossing. All events and activities presented by The Woodlands Township Parks & Recreation Department that require a fee can be paid online at their registration page. PERFORMING ARTS DANCE WITH CAROLINE BATSON
Baby Ballet - Toddlers ages 2 - 3½ will learn great pre-ballet technique and politeness while enhancing your child's imagination in this introduction to the wonderful world of dance, including proper dance technique, terminology and dance etiquette. Listening skills, sharing and waiting turns help little ballerinas in and outside of the dance class. Pink ballet slippers and tights, and black leotard, as well as hair in a bun are required. Tutus are okay! Classes held Thursdays, January 5 - May 25 from 10:30 - 11:00 AM at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch. FEE: $60 per child, per month, for residents; $70 for non-residents.
Summer Baby Ballet - Beginning June 20 - July 25, Baby Ballet will be for toddlers ages 2½ - 4, and be held from 6:30 - 7:00 PM on Tuesdays at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch. FEE: $80 per child for residents, $90 for non-residents.
Toddler Ballet & Tap - Little ones ages 3½ - 5 will be introduced to proper ballet/tap technique, terminology and etiquette taught focusing on listening, following directions and waiting turns. The class builds self confidence and a love for the arts. Black leotard, pink tights and leather ballet shoes, hair in a bun, and black tap shoes required. Children can wear any tutu they like! Classes held Thursdays, from 11:00 - 11:45 AM January 5 - May 25 at the Rec Center. FEE: $75 per child per month for residents; $85 for non-residents.
Summer Ballet & Tap - Beginning June 22 - July 27, Ballet & Tap will be for children ages 4 - 6, and be held from 6:30 - 7:15 PM on Thursdays at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch. FEE: $120 per child for residents, $130 for non-residents.
All classes are geared towards the joy of learning dance and performing on stage. Caroline Batson is a degreed dance professional and has 30 years experience.
MS. DEBI’S DANCE ARTS
Teaching the art of dance for over 25 years in The Woodlands, Ms. Debi is a classically-trained dancer and studio owner, and has a degree in dance education. Required attire: pink leotard, tights and ballet shoes. Join the fun!
Little Movers Dance Class - Children ages 3 - 5 will learn to move in a nurturing environment at this first-time dance experience. Classes held on Wednesdays at the Rec Center, January 4 - May 24 (no class March 15) from 3:45 - 4:30 PM at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch. Fee: $65 per child per month for residents, $75 per child for non-residents.
Summer Little Movers Dance Class - A first time dance experience! Boys and girls ages 3 - 5 learn to move within a nurturing environment. A fun time to run, jump and spread their wings to fly. This program is designed for the very young to experience dance movement such as skipping, turning, leaping, and also working within a group setting. Basic dance terms and words are used each week as they'll dance through a syllabus designed to spark the imagination and capture each child's heart. Each class consists of ballet, tap, creative dance, and basic mat gym skills to build agility and a strong body. Required dance attire for boys: white T-shirt, blue or black pants or shorts; for girls: pink leotard, pink tights, black tap shoes. Classes held Wednesdays June 7 - August 23, from 6:15 - 7:00 PM at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch. Fee: $65 per child per month for residents, $75 per child for non-residents.

i9 Sports Soccer - Classes for kids ages 3 - 13 includes fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises, offensive and defensive positioning and scrimmages. Both beginner and intermediate levels. Held on Tuesdays, May 2 - 23, from 4:30 - 6:00 PM, at Cattail Park. Also available on Fridays, May 5 - 26, from 5:30 - 7:00 PM at Wendtwoods Park.
i9 Sports T-Ball/Baseball - Classes for kids ages 3 - 13 will learn the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, catching, positions and fielding. Hitting from a tee for 3 - 4 year-olds, coach pitches for 5 - 7 year-olds. This is a great way to learn the basics and intermediate skills of the game and how it's played. Held on Wednesdays, May 3 - 24, from 4:30 - 6:00 PM; at Cattail Park.
i9 Sports Flag Football - Class for kids ages 4 - 13 includes passing, catching, de-flagging and offensive and defensive positioning. Both beginner and intermediate levels. Held on Mondays from 4:30 - 6:00 PM May 1 - 22, at Cattail Park.
i9 Sports Basketball - Basketball classes for kids ages 3 - 13 includes fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises, offensive and defensive positioning and scrimmages. Held on Thursdays from 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch, May 4 - 25.
Road To Elite Cubs Program - This year-round developmental sport and fitness program teaches children ages 2½ - 6 the fundamentals and mechanics of seven different sports while improving their three key areas of overall development: gross motor skills, physical fitness, and mental fitness. The seven different sports are basketball, baseball, soccer, football, volleyball, hockey and lacrosse. All sessions held at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch from 9:30 - 10:15 AM; choose from Mondays, May 1 - 22, or Wednesdays, May 3 - 24. Fee: $65 per child for residents, $75 for non-residents, per session.

Soccer 4 Tots - Your child will get a "kick" out of this program! Participants will learn how to pass, dribble, trap and shoot the ball; short-sided games will be played. Parent participation is required and shin guards are mandatory. Classes for 2 - 3½-year-olds are from 8:15 - 8:55 AM or 9:00 - 9:40 AM and 3½ - 5 year-olds from 9:50 - 10:30 AM on Saturdays May 6 - 20 (pro-rated session, no class on May 27), June 3 - 24, July 8 - 29, August 5 - 26, or September 9 - 30 at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch. Fee: $50 per child for residents, $60 for non-residents, per session.
Hot Shots - What better way to find out what sport a child wants to play! Little athletes will love getting a taste of basketball, soccer, playing catch and working as a team. Parent participation may be requested. Your hot shot (ages 4 - 7) will love learning new skills through a variety of fun activities. Held Saturdays, May 6 - 20 (pro-rated session, no class on May 27), June 3 - 24, July 8 - 29, August 5 - 26, or September 9 - 30, at the Recreation Center at Bear Branch. from 10:40 - 11:20 AM. Fee: $50 per child, per session for residents, $60 for non-residents.

Fury Mini-Sluggers - Held on Tuesdays at the Alden Bridge Sports Park, Little sluggers ages 4 - 6 will learn the fundamentals of T-ball including catching, throwing and running the bases. Participants must bring their own mitt.
Select from three, month-long sessions: June 6 - 27, July 11 - August 1 from 10:00 - 10:55 AM; or August 8 - 29 from 4:00 - 4:55 PM. Fee: $65 for residents, $75 for non-residents, per child per session.
Soccer Shots - Soccer Shots is an award winning children's soccer program with a focus on skill and character development. The age-appropriate curriculum is aligned with the Texas Early Learning Guidelines and teaches children basic and advanced technical skills in a fun and encouraging environment. All children receive an official Soccer Shots season medal and weekly prizes. MINI is for children age 2, and CLASSIC is for children ages 3 - 5. FEES for the program at $170 per child for residents, $180 for non-residents, and each session will have a free trial date (FTD) before the program starts. Does your child need to learn how to swim? Is your child already swimming, but need to become better at it? Swim lessons are available throughout the summer here in The Woodlands. See the charts below for the different age groups, lesson types and available dates. Swim With Me, Toddler Transitions, and Preschool are adult and child swimming lessons for children ages 6 months up to 5 years old. Level 1 is an introduction to water skills for children ages 3 - 7, level 2 is stroke development for children ages 4 - 8, level 3 is fundamental aquatic skills for children ages 5 - 10, and Advanced levels are for stroke improvement for children ages 5 - 12 years old.
Group lessons consist of seven classes per session. The final Friday of each session is reserved for makeup class, due to weather or pool closures as determined by Township staff. Registration for group lessons closes at 9:00 PM on the Wednesday before the first day of the session, please register early. Each class is a pre-requisite for the next higher level exceptions may only be permitted by swim coach. Fees: $65 per child, per session for residents, $75 for non-residents. Swim lessons will be provided at the Alden Bridge Pool, Falconwing Pool, Creekwood Pool, Sawmill Pool, and the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center.
Swim With Me - Infants, toddlers (six months to 2 1/2 years old) and adults that accompany them play games, sing songs and learn basic water skills. Children learn to become comfortable and enjoy the water while learning basic safety and water skills including entering and exiting the pool, blowing bubbles, submersion, floating (both back and front) and changing body position in the water.
Toddler Transitions – For children ages 2 - 3 1/2 years old, entering and exiting the water using steps and side, bobbing, blowing bubbles, retrieving submerged objects, submerging entire body, front and back float with support, front glide with support, recovering to a vertical position and freestyle with support. Parents participate in the water for the first week of the session to help their child gain confidence in the water. By the end of the program, children should be swimming on their own.
Preschool – Similar to Toddler Transitions for children ages 2 1/2 - 5, lessons will include entering and exiting the water using steps and side, bobbing, blowing bubbles, retrieving submerged objects, submerging entire body, front and back float with support, front glide with support, recovering to a vertical position and freestyle with support.
Level 1 – Children ages 3 - 7 years old will focus on opening eyes under water, submerging entire face, front float and recovery to vertical position without support, freestyle and backstroke with assistance.
Level 2 – Children ages 4 - 8 years old will work on jumping from the side, holding their breath, jellyfish and tuck floats without support, front and back glide with recovery to vertical position without support, back and freestyle independently, breaststroke, treading water and exploration of deep area of pool.
Level 3 – Children ages 5 - 10 years old will begin learning basic strokes, starting with headfirst entry from kneeling and standing position; underwater recovery of objects, treading water, simultaneous arm and leg movements on stomach without support, rotary breathing, dolphin kick, side stroke, and elementary backstroke.
Advanced 1, 2 and 3 – Stroke improvement lessons for children ages 5 - 12 years old will increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes. Advanced 1: free style, breathing to the side, stream line, backstroke and starting arm movements. Advanced 2: free style, back stroke, butterfly and breast stroke, kicks, and further development of arm motions. Advanced 3: Free style, back, breast and butterfly strokes, as well as turns and dives.
