Early Child Development Activities and Classes
There are a number of activities and events that are sponsored by the Township throughout the year. Unless otherwise noted, all activities and programs are held at the Recreation Center, located adjacent to Bear Branch Park at 5200 Research Forest Drive in Cochran's Crossing. All events and activities presented by The Woodlands Township Parks & Recreation Department that require a fee can be paid online at their registration page. Toddler Tuesdays - New for 2016! Every Tuesday starting February 9 from 10:00 AM - Noon at the Rec Center. Are your children tired of playing at home with the same old things? Let your kids have fun with the Rec Center's toys and equipment, and get some adult conversation for yourself! Parent supervision required. Ages: Crawling to pre-school Fee: $3 per child for drop-in, or $10 per child, per month.
August - October
Sports of All Sorts - What better way to find out what your child wants to play! Little athletes ages 3 - 5 will love getting a taste of basketball, soccer, playing catch, and working as a team! There will be a few surprises in store, too! Parent participation may be requested. Select from two sessions, 10:40 - 11:20 AM on Saturdays; August 6 - 27; or September 10 - October 1. Fee: $50 per child for residents, $60 for non-residents, per month.
August - November
Fury Mini-Sluggers - Held on Tuesdays at the Alden Bridge Sports Park, Little sluggers ages 4 - 6 will learn the fundamentals of T-ball including catching, throwing and running the bases. Participants must bring their own mitt. Select from three, four-week sessions: August 2 - 23 (9:00 - 10:00 AM), September 5 - 27, or October 11 - November 1 from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. Fee: $65 for residents, $75 for non-residents, per child per session.

i9 Sports Soccer - Classes for kids ages 4 - 13 includes fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises, offensive and defensive positioning and scrimmages. Both beginner and intermediate levels. Four sessions to choose from, all on Tuesdays, August 23 - September 13, September 20 - October 11, October 18 - November 8, or November 15 - December 13 (No class November 22), from 4:30 - 6:00 PM, at Cattail Park.
i9 Sports T-Ball/Baseball - Classes for kids ages 3 - 13 will learn the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, catching, positions and fielding. Hitting from a tee for 3 - 4 year-olds, coach pitches for 5 - 7 year-olds. This is a great way to learn the basics and intermediate skills of the game and how it's played. Four sessions to choose from, all on Wednesdays, August 24 - September 14, September 21 - October 12, from 4:30 - 6:00 PM, or October 19 - November 9, or November 16 - December 14 (No class November 23), from 4:15 - 5:45 PM; all at Cattail Park.
i9 Sports Flag Football - Class for kids ages 4 - 13 includes passing, catching, de-flagging and offensive and defensive positioning. Both beginner and intermediate levels. Four sessions to choose from, all on Mondays from 4:30 - 6:00 PM. August 22 - September 12, September 19 - October 10, October 17 - November 7, or November 14 - December 12 (No class on Labor Day, September 5 or November 21), at Cattail Park.
i9 Sports Basketball - Basketball classes for kids ages 4 - 13 includes fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises, offensive and defensive positioning and scrimmages. Four sessions to choose from, all on Thursdays from 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM. August 25 - September 15, September 22 - October 13, October 20 - November 10, or November 17 - December 15 (No class November 24) at the Recreation Center.
i9 Basketball League - Basketball league for beginner and intermediate players ages 4 - 13. Learn basic basketball skills and drills, including passing, shooting, dribbling and offensive and defensive sets. Saturdays and Sundays, beginning October 4 at the Rec Center. Schedules will be distributed prior to the season with dates and times for practices and games; younger teams play first. Fee: $140 per child, which includes jersey, equipment, two medals and end-of-season party. Sign up at i9Sports.com.
Star Wars Science - Your Jedi ages 5 - 12 will manipulate the unseen forces of magnetism and static electricity to levitate and move objects, create galactic goo, explode Mustafar volcanoes and battle Darth Vader. Held Monday - Friday, September 19 - 23 from 4:30 - 6:00 PM at the Rec Center. Fee: $75 per child for residents, $85 for non-residents.
September - October
Healthy Chefs with Cook, Learn, Grow! - From whole grains, good fats, healthy snacking and superfoods, this cooking class will give students ages 5 - 12 the tools to make healthy choices. Kids will be encouraged down a path of healthful eating. This class can accommodate nut allergies. Space is limited; register today! When sports and hobbies end, cooking skills will serve best. Classes held on Mondays, September 12 - October 3 from 4:30 - 5:30 PM at the Rec Center. Fee: $185 per child for residents, $195 for non-residents.

PERFORMING ARTS DANCE WITH CAROLINE BATSON
Baby Ballet - Toddlers ages 2 - 3½ will benefit from this introduction to the wonderful world of dance including proper dance technique, terminology and dance etiquette. Listening skills, sharing and waiting turns help little ballerinas in and outside of the dance class. Pink ballet slippers and tights, and black leotard are required. Tutus are okay! Classes held Thursdays, September 8 - December 15 from 10:30 - 11:00 AM. FEE: $60 per child for residents; $70 for non-residents.
Toddler Ballet & Tap - Ballet and tap taught to little ones ages 3½ - 5 in a creative and fun way! Proper ballet/tap technique, terminology and etiquette taught focusing on listening, following directions and waiting turns. Black leotard, pink tights and slippers, and black tap shoes required. Children can wear any tutu they like! Classes held Thursdays, September 8 - December 15, from 11:00 - 11:45 AM. FEE: $75 per child per month for residents; $85 for non-residents.
All classes are geared towards the joy of learning dance and performing on stage. Caroline Batson is a degreed dance professional and has 30 years experience. Join anytime!
MS. DEBI’S DANCE ARTS
Teaching the art of dance for over 25 years in The Woodlands, Ms. Debi is a classically-trained dancer and studio owner, and has a degree in dance education. Required attire: pink leotard, tights and ballet shoes. Join the fun!
Little Movers Dance Class - Children ages 3 - 5 will learn to move in a nurturing environment at this first-time dance experience. Classes held on Wednesdays at the Rec Center, starting September 7 from 3:45 - 4:30 PM. Fee: $65 per child per month for residents, $75 per child for non-residents.
Super Stars Dance Class - A great time to meet new friends and share the love of dance. Teaching the basics of dance to boys and girls ages 6 - 9, although there is a bit more jumping, turning and leaping! Students will learn ballet, jazz and tap. Classes held Wednesdays, starting September 7 from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM. FEE: $75 per child for residents; $85 for non-residents.
Engineering for Kids - Curious Engineers - At this parent participation optional course, junior engineers ages 3½ - 6 use the Engineering Design Process to create hands-on solutions to a real world challenges. Children are naturally curious about the world around them. Building on that curiosity, this course teaches engineering concepts with hands-on learning. Children create a variety of projects exposing them to the world of engineering. Classes held on Saturdays, September 10 - December 17 from 8:50 - 9:30 AM. Engineering For Kids: STEM Saturday Junior Engineering - Junior engineers ages 5 - 8 will be introduced to the world of computer software and engineering by using laptops and MIT's scratch software. Students will get to design their own unique sprites, shoot moon rocks, and complete a variety of space pioneer challenges. Students will become industrial engineers and will take part in different activities that enable them to design and construct simple machinery using assembly line concepts to make tasty treats! Classes held on Saturdays, September 10 - December 17 from 9:35 - 10:35 AM at the Rec Center. Fee: $316 per child for residents, $326 for non-residents; payment plans available upon request.

ArtSmart - This early learning art experience for children in Pre-K and Kindergarten focuses on exploring the visual arts with simple and fun lessons that nurture very young children’s creativity. Students ages 4 - 5 will develop an appreciation for art while exploring its elements, such as color, texture, and shape. Class encourages development of fine motor skills, perceptual thinking, and creative problem solving. ArtSmart will be held on Tuesdays at the Rec Center, September 20 - November 29 from 2:30 - 3:30 PM. Fee: $184 per child for residents, $194 for non-residents.
Geography Bee - Kids as young as age 5 on up to age 14 will find learning about our diverse world has never been more FUN! This curriculum includes S.T.E.A.M. and Language activities. The class offer age-appropriate, question-based and hands-on learning for kids ages 5 - 14 of all cultural backgrounds. Kids build 2D and 3D puzzles of countries and known buildings and make tasty snacks (such as sushi), try on ethnic clothing, design and make traditional, modern homes and clothing, musical instruments, dance, music, fine arts, play known ethnic field and board games. Kids also learn politeness and respect while meeting, eating and speaking native languages. Some of the countries to be explored include Australia, Brazil, Egypt, and France! Classes will be held on Wednesdays, September 6 - December 15 from 5:30 - 6:30 at the Rec Center. Fee: $110 per child, per month for residents, $120 for non-residents.
Hot Shots - Coach Sarah will provide an introduction to passing, dribbling, shooting and rebounding. Your hot shot (ages 4 - 7) will love learning new skills through a variety of fun activities. Held Saturdays at the Rec Center; choose from September 10 - 24 (pro-rated session), October 1 - 22, October 29 - November 19, or December 3 - 17 (pro-rated session), from 10:40 - 11:20 AM. Fee: $50 per child, per session for residents, $60 for non-residents.
Teddy Tennis - This is a fantastic, fun way to encourage children age 2½ - 6 years old to get active and learn to play tennis. It works by combining music, pictures and teddy bear stories into a totally interactive learning adventure that all young children love. All equipment will be provided for each child to participate. Held on Tuesdays, September 6 - December 13 at the Terramont Park Basketball Court; choose from 9:00 - 9:45 AM or 4:00 - 4:45 PM for 2½ - 3 year olds, and 10:00 - 10:45 AM - 5:00 - 5:45 PM for 4 - 6 year olds. Fees: $18 per child for one class; $72 per month for residents/$82 per month for non-residents (four classes); or $245 for whole session for residents/$255 for non-residents (14 classes).
Soccer 4 Tots - Your child will get a "kick" out of this program! Participants will learn how to pass, dribble, trap and shoot the ball; short-sided games will be played. Parent participation is required and shin guards are mandatory. Classes for 2 - 3½-year-olds are from 8:15 - 8:55 AM or 9:00 - 9:40 AM and 3½ - 5 year-olds from 9:50 - 10:30 AM on Saturdays; September 10 - 24; (pro-rated session) October 1 - 22; October 29 - November 19 or December 3 - 17 (pro-rated session). Fee: $50 per child for residents, $60 for non-residents, per session.
Road To Elite Cubs Program - This year-round developmental sport and fitness program teaches children ages 2½ - 6 the fundamentals and mechanics of seven different sports while improving their three key areas of overall development: gross motor skills, physical fitness, and mental fitness. The seven different sports are basketball, baseball, soccer, football, volleyball, hockey and lacrosse. All sessions held at the Rec Center from 9:30 - 10:15 AM; choose from Mondays September 12 - October 3, October 10 - 31, November 7 - 28, or December 5 - 19 (December session is pro-rated), or Wednesdays, September 7 - 28, October 5 - 26, November 2 - 30 (no class Thanksgiving week, pro-rated session), or December 7 - 21 (December session also pro-rated). Fee: $65 per child for residents, $75 for non-residents, per session.
Youth Speed & Endurance Running Beginner to Intermediate - Coach Green will provide the essentials to establish a solid base and ensure each athlete ages 5 - 12 will have the ability to develop their running speed and endurance. Warm up and cool down, stretching, proper body mechanics and technique will be implemented during each session to develop the skills needed to become a successful runner. Coached by Dan Green, longtime resident and track/cross country coach and teacher of 45 years in The Woodlands. Sessions held at Bear Branch Sports Fields on Tuesdays and Thursdays, September - December from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. Fee: $80 per month for residents, $90 for non-residents.
