Early Child Development Activities and Classes
There are a number of activities and events that are sponsored by the Township throughout the year. Unless otherwise noted, all activities and programs are held at the Recreation Center, located adjacent to Bear Branch Park at 5200 Research Forest Drive in Cochran's Crossing. All events and activities presented by The Woodlands Township Parks & Recreation Department that require a fee can be paid online at their registration page. Toddler Tuesdays - New for 2016! Every Tuesday starting January 10 from 10:00 AM - Noon at the Rec Center. Are your children tired of playing at home with the same old things? Let your kids have fun with the Rec Center's toys and equipment, and get some adult conversation for yourself! Parent supervision required. Ages: Crawling to pre-school Fee: $3 per child for drop-in, or $10 per child, per month.

Baby Steps - Designed for both boys and girls ages 12 - 24 months this class lets you meet other parents and let the babies have some fun! Coordination, auditory perception, fine motor skills and visual communication skills are just a few things worked on with the babies in the program! Movement is the key! Classes held at the Rec Center, January 30 - March 6 (10 classes total) from 10:00 - 10:20 AM. Fee: $25 per child for residents, $30 per child for non-residents.

PERFORMING ARTS DANCE WITH CAROLINE BATSON
Baby Ballet - Toddlers ages 2 - 3½ will learn great pre-ballet technique and politeness while enhancing your child's imagination. Pink ballet slippers and tights, and black leotard are required. Tutus are okay! Classes held Thursdays, January 5 - May 25 from 10:30 - 11:00 AM at the Rec Center. FEE: $60 per child, per month, for residents; $70 for non-residents.
Toddler Ballet & Tap - Little ones ages 3½ - 5 will be introduced to dance with plies, skipping, shuffles and a performance for the whole family to enjoy! The class builds self confidence and a love for the arts. Black leotard, pink tights and slippers, and black tap shoes required. Children can wear any tutu they like! Classes held Thursdays, from 11:00 - 11:45 AM January 5 - May 25 at the Rec Center. FEE: $75 per child per month for residents; $85 for non-residents.
All classes are geared towards the joy of learning dance and performing on stage. Caroline Batson is a degreed dance professional and has 30 years experience. Join anytime!
MS. DEBI’S DANCE ARTS
Teaching the art of dance for over 25 years in The Woodlands, Ms. Debi is a classically-trained dancer and studio owner, and has a degree in dance education. Required attire: pink leotard, tights and ballet shoes. Join the fun!
Little Movers Dance Class - Children ages 3 - 5 will learn to move in a nurturing environment at this first-time dance experience. Classes held on Wednesdays at the Rec Center, January 4 - May 24 (no class March 15) from 3:45 - 4:30 PM. Fee: $65 per child per month for residents, $75 per child for non-residents.
Young Rembrandts - Young artists (ages 3½ - 5) will enjoy these art lessons, which are designed to help young artists improve their fine motor skills, patience levels, focus and ability to stay on task. As the young artists learn and use technical drawing skills, they discover that all complex objects can be broken down into familiar shapes. Then, the young artists use problem solving skills, innovation, and imagination to create their masterpieces. The program gives young artists the opportunity to build confidence in their drawing skills while having fun. The Young Rembrandts program utilizes an original step-by-step method that has been developed for more than 25 years to teach young artists to draw. Held Wednesdays, January 4 - May 24 from 10:15 - 11:00 AM at the Rec Center. Fee: $65 per child for residents, $75 for non-residents.
Spanish for Preschoolers - The preschool years are the optimal window of language development for children. Teachers introduce the children's new language through play, music, games, arts and crafts, hands-on activities and a variety of learning activities to help children achieve their learning goals. Book Needed: Complete Book of Starter Spanish, Grades Preschool (American Education Publishing - Carson-Dellosa Publishing). Classes will be held on Wednesdays, January 4 - March 15 or March 22 - May 24, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the Rec Center. Fee: $195 per child, per session (Jan - Mar or Mar - May) for residents, $205 for non-residents.
Art for Preschoolers - Young children spend the first few years of life discovering the world. They gather, collect, examine and process more in the preschool years than any other time in their development, preparing their brains for more advanced learning. Teachers help children ages 2 - 5 learn to follow directions, how to use a pencil, learn handwriting skills, understand and draw basic shapes, stay on task and focus, gain fine motor skills, enhance their communication skills and increase their self-confidence and self-esteem. Classes will be held on Wednesdays, January 11 - March 15 or March 22 - May 24, from 11:00 - 11:45 AM at the Rec Center. Fee: $195 per child, per session (Jan - Mar or Mar - May) for residents, $205 for non-residents.
Engineering for Kids - Curious Engineers - At this parent participation optional course, junior engineers ages 3½ - 6 use the Engineering Design Process to create hands-on solutions to a real world challenges. Children are naturally curious about the world around them. Building on that curiosity, this course teaches engineering concepts with hands-on learning. Children create a variety of projects exposing them to the world of engineering. Classes held on Saturdays, January 21 - May 13 (no classes March 11, March 18, or April 15), from 8:30 - 9:30 AM. Fee: $322 per child for residents, $332 per child for non-residents; payment plans are available upon request.
Soccer 4 Tots - Your child will get a "kick" out of this program! Participants will learn how to pass, dribble, trap and shoot the ball; short-sided games will be played. Parent participation is required and shin guards are mandatory. Classes for 2 - 3½-year-olds are from 8:15 - 8:55 AM or 9:00 - 9:40 AM and 3½ - 5 year-olds from 9:50 - 10:30 AM on Saturdays; January 7 - 28; February 4 - 25; March 4 - 25; April 1 - 29 (pro-rated session, no class on April 16); or May 6 - 20 (pro-rated session, no class on May 27). Fee: $50 per child for residents, $60 for non-residents, per session.
Hot Shots - Coach Sarah will provide an introduction to passing, dribbling, shooting and rebounding. Your hot shot (ages 4 - 7) will love learning new skills through a variety of fun activities. Held Saturdays at the Rec Center; January 7 - 28; February 4 - 25; March 4 - 25; April 1 - 29 (pro-rated session, no class on April 16); or May 6 - 20 (pro-rated session, no class on May 27). , from 10:40 - 11:20 AM. Fee: $50 per child, per session for residents, $60 for non-residents.

i9 Sports Soccer - Classes for kids ages 3 - 13 includes fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises, offensive and defensive positioning and scrimmages. Both beginner and intermediate levels. Nine sessions to choose from, all on Tuesdays, January 3 - 24, February 28 - March 28, April 4 - 25, or May 2 - 23 (no classes during Spring Break), from 4:30 - 6:00 PM, at Cattail Park. Also available on Fridays, January 6 - 27, February 3 - 24, March 3 - 31, April 7 - 28, or May 5 - 26, from 5:30 - 7:00 PM at Wendtwoods Park.
i9 Sports T-Ball/Baseball - Classes for kids ages 3 - 13 will learn the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, catching, positions and fielding. Hitting from a tee for 3 - 4 year-olds, coach pitches for 5 - 7 year-olds. This is a great way to learn the basics and intermediate skills of the game and how it's played. Five sessions to choose from, all on Wednesdays, January 4 - 25, February 1 - 22, March 1 - 29, April 5 - 20, or May 3 - 24 (no classes during Spring Break), from 4:30 - 6:00 PM; all at Cattail Park.
i9 Sports Flag Football - Class for kids ages 4 - 13 includes passing, catching, de-flagging and offensive and defensive positioning. Both beginner and intermediate levels. Five sessions to choose from, all on Mondays from 4:30 - 6:00 PM. January 2 - 23, January 30 - February 20, February 27 - March 27, April 3 - 24, or May 1 - 22(no classes during Spring Break), at Cattail Park.
i9 Sports Basketball - Basketball classes for kids ages 3 - 13 includes fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises, offensive and defensive positioning and scrimmages. Four sessions to choose from, all on Thursdays from 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM. January 5 - 26, February 2 - 23, March 2 - 30, April 6 - 24, or May 4 - 25 (no classes during Spring Break) at the Recreation Center.
i9 Basketball League - Basketball league for beginner and intermediate players ages 4 - 12. Learn basic basketball skills and drills, including passing, shooting, dribbling and offensive and defensive sets. Saturdays and Sundays, beginning January 14 and again April 2 at the Rec Center. Schedules will be distributed prior to the season with dates and times for practices and games; younger teams play first. Fee: $140 per child, which includes jersey, equipment, two medals and end-of-season party. Sign up at i9Sports.com.

Fury Mini-Sluggers - Held on Tuesdays at the Alden Bridge Sports Park, Little sluggers ages 4 - 6 will learn the fundamentals of T-ball including catching, throwing and running the bases. Participants must bring their own mitt. Select from two, four-week sessions: February 7 - 28 or April 4 - 25 from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. Fee: $65 for residents, $75 for non-residents, per child per session.
ArtSmart - This early learning art experience for children in Pre-K and Kindergarten focuses on exploring the visual arts with simple and fun lessons that nurture very young children’s creativity. Students ages 4 - 5 will develop an appreciation for art while exploring its elements, such as color, texture, and shape. Class encourages development of fine motor skills, perceptual thinking, and creative problem solving. ArtSmart will be held on Tuesdays at the Rec Center, February 7 - April 18 from 2:30 - 3:30 PM. Fee: $184 per child for residents, $194 for non-residents.

Teddy Tennis - This is a fantastic, fun way to encourage children age 2½ - 6 years old to get active and learn to play tennis. It works by combining music, pictures and teddy bear stories into a totally interactive learning adventure that all young children love. All equipment will be provided for each child to participate. Held on Tuesdays, February 7 - May 23 at the Terramont Park Basketball Court; or Thursdays, February 2 - May 25 at the Timarron Park basketball court, from 5:00 - 5:45 PM for 2½ - 3 year olds, and 6:00 - 6:45 PM for 4 - 6 year olds. Fees: $72 per month for residents/$82 per month for non-residents (four classes); no classes March 14 or March 16.
Road To Elite Cubs Program - This year-round developmental sport and fitness program teaches children ages 2½ - 6 the fundamentals and mechanics of seven different sports while improving their three key areas of overall development: gross motor skills, physical fitness, and mental fitness. The seven different sports are basketball, baseball, soccer, football, volleyball, hockey and lacrosse. All sessions held at the Rec Center from 9:30 - 10:15 AM; choose from Mondays February 6 - 27, March 6 - 27, April 3 - 24, or May 1 - 22, or Wednesdays, February 5 - March 1, March 8 - 29, April 5 - 26, or May 3 - 24. Fee: $65 per child for residents, $75 for non-residents, per session.
Youth Speed & Endurance Running Beginner to Intermediate - Coach Green will provide the essentials to establish a solid base and ensure each athlete ages 5 - 12 will have the ability to develop their running speed and endurance. Warm up and cool down, stretching, proper body mechanics and technique will be implemented during each session to develop the skills needed to become a successful runner. Coached by Dan Green, longtime resident and track/cross country coach and teacher of 45 years in The Woodlands. Sessions held at Bear Branch Sports Fields on Tuesdays and Thursdays, September - December from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. Fee: $80 per month for residents, $90 for non-residents.
