Running and walking events are generally good for local economies and local businesses. Runners often travel from out of town and eat meals, stay in hotels, and purchase gasoline from local businesses. Runners and walkers tend to be loyal to particular races and are crucial to helping the events grow by bringing in friends, relatives, neighbors and coworkers."

The Run The Woodlands 5K Series The RTW 5K Series is run on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month and is sponsored by Luke's Locker.

The CB&I Triathalon - The Woodlands 'CB&I Tri' is one of the premier multi-sport events in the region offering high-caliber competition, first-rate race management and a scenic course starting at North Shore Park. The annual race then loops through Town Center, the villages of Panther Creek, Cochran's Crossing, and the eastern edge of Sterling Ridge before returning to the finish at North Shore Park. This event has reached capacity and sold out registration in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

10 For Texas is a certified 10-mile course along Woodlands Parkway and Lake Woodlands Drive. Runners finish the race at Central Park at Market Street. There is also One for Texas, a one-mile kids run.

Ge Run Thru the Woods An annual 5 mile race on Thanksgiving day. GE Run Thru the Woods is celebrating 20 years as one of Texas' premier running and walking family events. The Run Thru The Woods is a time for families and individuals to get exercise, have fun and help out a good cause. The charity event attracts more than 5000 annually. The 5-mile race is certified, TX07018ETM. No Pets Allowed at the Event. No Jogging Strollers Allowed in the 1 Mile Kids Race, 3 Mile Teen Race or 5 Mile Race.

Muddy Trails 5K / 10K / Little Muddy Kids Fun Run / 5K-9 Fun Run courses wind through the beautiful George Mitchell Preserve Trails, located on 1,800 wooded acres adjacent to Rob Fleming Park in the Village of Creekside Park. A new component was added for the 2011 race, the "5K-9 Fun Run" - participants are allowed one dog per runner. Dogs must be on a non-retractable leash and proof of shots is required at packet pick-up. All participants will receive a T-shirt and four-legged participants will receive a doggie bandana. The Little Muddy Kid's Fun Run is recommended for children ages 5 and up.
