The Woodlands Public Parks
There are several different kinds/types of parks in The Woodlands including Townwide Parks, Area Parks, Village Parks, Neighborhood Parks & Amenity Parks. Additionally, there are "Wheel Friendly Parks" that feature Skateboard Parks (complete with concrete grinding walls, stairs, rails, and bowls) and Bicycle Motocross (BMX) Dirt Tracks. The Woodlands is also home to several Leash-Free Dog Parks. The Woodlands parks, shopping centers, and villages are, or will be, interconnected via The Woodlands Pathways - 4' wide concrete sidewalks that wind through the many trees and neighborhoods. |

The Parks and Recreation Department of The Woodlands Township operates and maintains the hike and bike paths, 130 parks, 13 swimming pools, and more than 1,800 acres of open space for residents to enjoy (numbers of each are ever-increasing). The Community Associations of The Woodlands transitioned services and operations to The Woodlands Township effective January 1, 2010. The Woodlands features more than 140 miles of 4’ wide concrete sidewalks or pathways that wind throughout the community. The hike and bike pathways are restricted to non-motorized vehicle use and are located throughout the Villages of The Woodlands. Residents and their guests can enjoy a variety of activities, such as walking, jogging, bicycling and roller-blading along the pathways which are conveniently linked throughout neighborhoods, parks, schools, and area shopping centers. The pathways also connect the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and the various free parking areas for the seasonal concerts and events held at the outdoor amphitheater. Bike and Skate Parks - The WoodlandsThere are currently nine parks in The Woodlands that feature various wheel-friendly areas; Click here for a complete listing. Bear Branch Park is the largest skate park in The Woodlands and is designed for intermediate to advanced skaters, it includes in-ground concrete bowls and above ground concrete plazas. Ridgewood Park and Cranebrook Park feature BMX dirt tracks. Click here for the official "wheel friendly" park rules. All participants are required to wear personal protective equipment, including head protection (helmets), elbow pads, knee pads and gloves. Users will be asked to leave the premises if they are not wearing proper safety equipment. Skateboarding, skating and freestyle bicycling are potentially hazardous recreational activities. Use of these facilities may result in paralysis, brain damage, broken bones, other serious injury or even DEATH. Any use is at your own risk. |
Frisbee Disc Golf CoursesThe Woodlands features two frisbee golf (frolf) courses, one at Bear Branch Sports Park and the other at Terramont Park in Sterling Ridge. Additionally, one other disc golf course can be found just outside The Woodlands in Spring.
Where is The Woodlands Recreation Center? * The The Gorilla Hole starts at 6:30 PM on the first and third Fridays of the month in the Woodlands Recreation Center. The Recreation Center will be closed on Memorial Day (May 28, 2012). |
