Everyone loves the annual Muddy Trails 5K / 10K / Little Muddy Kids Fun Run / 2K-9 Fun Run! Run in early April each year, the course winds through the beautiful George Mitchell Preserve Trails, located on 1,800 wooded acres, adjacent to Rob Fleming Park located in the Village of Creekside Park. The chip-timed 5k and 10k race is recommended for participants ages 10 years and older of all fitness levels. There will also be a kids race for the nine and under set. The post-race party will be held at Rob Fleming Park with a live Zydeco band and mudbugs for everyone!


The Muddy Trails Bash benefits programs and service offered through The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department. Since its opening, The Woodlands Township Recreation Center has served the community through recreation program scholarships and promotion of other not-for-profit groups. Please Note: Muddy Trails Bash is not a mud run or adventure race.

Little Muddy Buddy Kids Fun Run

The chip-timed races (5K and 10K) are recommended for participants ages 10 and older. The Little Muddy Kid's Fun Run is recommended for children ages 5 and up.


2K-9 Fun Run

The annual Muddy Trails 2K-9 Fun Run allows participants to run with a four-legged furry friend along the beautiful 2K course. 2K-9 participants are allowed one dog per runner. Dogs must be on a non-retractable leash and proof of shots is required at packet pick-up. For the 2K9 Fun Run, the runner must be 13 years or older. Restrictions apply to doggie participation, including: no female dogs in heat, no puppies under six months of age, and no aggressive dogs. Please remember, owners must clean up after their animals. NOTE: Please make sure your dog is able to walk/run 1.1 miles before participating in this event. All participants will receive a T-shirt and four-legged participants will receive a commemorative dog tag for completing the race. Participants with dogs will not be able to utilize the shuttle service and will require a parking pass in order to park in the 2K-9 participant lot (New Haven House of Prayer located at 6262 Creekside Green, The Woodlands 77389). 2K-9 PARTICIPANTS – Please be on the lookout for your parking pass in your race packet.


Race Day is April 6, 2019. Activities begin at 3:00 PM. Races will begin at 4:00, with awards following immediately after. Race Day ends at 8:00 PM. For the full event schedule, please see the official Township race site.

Woodlands Muddy Trails USA Track & Field Sanctioned Event The USA Track & Field sanctioned 5K and 10K courses incorporate Creekside Forest Drive, the George Mitchell Preserve, and culminates in front of Rob Fleming Park. All kilometers will be marked. See the Township website for course maps.

The 5k and 10k is recommended for participant's ages 10 years and older of all fitness levels and both will be chip-timed events. Little Muddy Kids' Run is an untimed, noncompetitive, 1-mile event designed to promote fun and fitness for kids of all abilities. Recommended for ages 5 and up, parents may run with their children (parent does not need to register for Kids' Run).

Baby strollers/joggers (of any type), skateboards, in-line skates, bicycles, etc. will not be allowed. Pets are not allowed to run in the timed 5K and 10K races.


  • 5k Race - $45 before April 5, $50 on race day (limited to 900 participants)
  • 10k Race - $50 before April 5, $55 on race day (limited to 500 participants)
  • 2k9 Race w/your Dog! - $35 before April 5, $40 on race day (limited to 75 participants)
  • Little Muddy Kids Race - $35, before April 5, $40 on race day (limited to 300 participants)


Registration can be completed online. Race day registration will be held at WoodsEdge Community Church, based on availability. All races will be capped. 5K at 900, 10K at 500, Kids' Fun Run at 300, and 2K-9 at 75 with a total of 1,775 athletes to ensure safety and a positive race experience for all.

The Muddy Bowl will be held at the Lodge at Rob Fleming Park with a entertainment and mud bugs for everyone. Awards will be distributed for:

  • Top male and female overall
  • Top male and female Masters, ages 40 and up
  • Top three male and female in following age groups:
    • Age 14 and under
    • Ages 15-19
    • Ages 20-29
    • Ages 30-39
    • Ages 40-49
    • Ages 50-59
    • Ages 60-69
    • Ages 70 and up

The awards ceremonies will start promptly when the last finisher is in.

Residents will experience some traffic delays during the afternoon and early evening, in and around the race route. Portions of Creekside Forest Drive will be closed from the round-a-bout to Lake Paloma Drive starting at 11:00 AM. The Woodlands Township is diligently working to minimize the inconvenience to residents and have developed a Traffic Control Plan which was approved by Harris County Constable Office Precinct 4.

Volunteers are needed to help make the race a great experience for all participants. Volunteers will receive a specially designed t-shirt and an invitation to the Muddy Trails Bash. To volunteer, see the Township official website.
