The Woodlands Marathon

After a long hiatus that began in 1993, The Woodlands Marathon was brought back to life on March 3, 2012. The next Woodlands Marathon will be held on March 5, 2016. The Woodlands Marathon takes place on streets throughout Town Center and the community on a single-loop, 26.2-mile flat course. Additionally, athletes can participate in a 5K Run, Half Marathon or 2K Fun Run/Walk. Online registration is available!

 

Friends, family and spectators lined the streets at various cheer zones to encourage athletes along with music. Participants had the opportunity to run for charities in the The Woodlands Charity Challenge.

 

The Woodlands Charity Challenge program is an avenue for participants to challenge themselves in their athletic goals by sharing their racing journey with family, friends and community, for the benefit of a variety of local charities.

THE WOODLANDS MARATHON

The 2016 Woodlands Marathon has the following (tentative) start times:

  • 2K Fun Run/Walk - FRIDAY, FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2016 at 6:30 PM
  • Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay - SATURDAY MARCH 5, 2016 at 7:00 AM
  • 5k − SATURDAY MARCH 5, 2016 at 7:10 AM

All athletes must be in their wave start corrals no later than 6:50 AM for the full marathon, half marathon, relay marathon and 5k races. Elite athletes will be directed to the starting line. Athletes must be in their designated wave corrals in order to proceed to the starting line.

Entry Fees for The Woodlands Marathon are: $130 January 1 - February 28, 2016, $135 at the Expo. Entry Fees are non-transferable and non-refundable, and may be deferred up to one year. Request for deferrals must be made by January 31, 2016. Registration is currently set to close at 1,100 participants for the full marathon, however, this is subject to change.

 

Each Marathon athlete will receive an athlete swag bag containing an official finisher's technical shirt, a hat or visor, an official finisher's certificate, a custom bib number with name (if registered by January 15), a commemorative finisher's medal, access to the post-race finish festival with food, the Health and Fitness Expo, free parking in designated areas, photo proofs crossing the finish line, and age group awards three deep.

 

To participate in The Woodlands Marathon, all participants must be 16 years of age by March 5, 2016 to participate in the full marathon, and 13 years old to participate in the half-marathon. Athletes younger than minimum age requirements may request permission from the race director to participate.

 

The Woodlands Marathon Awards are broken down as follows:

Ages 15-19 (Male and Female) Ages 35-39 (Male and Female) Ages 55-59 (Male and Female)
Ages 20-24 (Male and Female) Ages 40-44 (Male and Female) Ages 60-64 (Male and Female)
Ages 25-29 (Male and Female) Ages 45-49 (Male and Female) Ages 65-69 (Male and Female)
Ages 30-34 (Male and Female) Ages 50-54 (Male and Female) Ages 70-74 (Male and Female)
and Ages 75+ (Male and Female)

The 2016 Woodlands Marathon is a Boston Marathon Qualifier!

THE WOODLANDS HALF MARATHON

The Woodlands Half Marathon was produced for the first time ever in 2012 and sold out, traversing a single loop of the 13.1-mile flat marathon course. Start times for the Half Marathon are the same as those for the full Marathon.

 

Entry Fees for The Woodlands Half Marathon are: $110 in January - February 28, 2016, and $115 at the Expo. The entry fee is non-transferable and non-refundable, and may be deferred up to one year. Registration is currently set to close at 3,800 participants for the half marathon, however, this is subject to change.

 

Each Half Marathon athlete will receive an athlete swag bag containing an official finisher's technical shirt, an official race t-shirt (if registered by January 15), an official finisher's certificate, a custom bib number with name (if registered by January 15) a commemorative finisher's medal, access to the Post Race Finish Festival with food and beer, the Health and Fitness Expo, free parking, photo proofs crossing the finish line, and age group awards three deep.

 

All participants in The Woodlands Half Marathon must be 13 years of age by March 5, 2016. Athletes younger than 13 years of age may request permission to participate in the full marathon, and upon review the Race Director may grant approval.

THE WOODLANDS MARATHON RELAY

The Woodlands Marathon hosted the first annual Corporate Relay in 2012. Teams of three (3) or four (4) individuals are invited to run the marathon course with specific exchange points along the racecourse. Friends, family and spectators will be able to cheer these same participants across the Half Marathon finish line. The event will start and finish on Lake Robbins Drive in front of the Market Street parking garage.

 

MARATHON RELAY DETAILS:
  • Start Time: 7:00 AM
  • Entry Fees (2-Person/4-person): $70/55 January - February 28, 2016, and $75/65 at the Expo
Race Site Shuttle Location – Located at the corner of Lake Robbins Drive and Six Pines Drive.
Exchange Point A – Located on Tanglebrush Drive, at mile 6.5 next to water stop area.
Shuttle Location A (mile 6.5) – Located on Tanglebrush Drive at Water Stop D.  Recommended parking is on Yewleaf Drive and walk to exchange point.
Exchange Point B – Located on Branch Crossing just past the 12.5 water stop on the north side of Star Ridge Circle and Branch Crossing.
Shuttle Location B (mile 13.1) – Located on Branch Crossing Drive & Star Ridge Circle and the half marathon mark of the marathon course.  Recommended parking is on Star Ridge or Frontera Circle.
Exchange Point C – located on Kuykendahl Drive and Lake Woodlands Drive just past the 20-mile mark and at the GU Energy Zone.
Shuttle Location C – Located on Kuykendahl Drive and Lake Woodlands intersection northwest corner 50 yards from exchange point. Recommended parking is Sterling Ridge Shopping Center.

 

IMPORTANT: Transportation From Exchange Points
Each member will be responsible for his or her transportation to the exchange points along the course. The Woodlands Marathon Management will not be responsible for transporting runners to the exchange points. The Woodlands Marathon Management will transport runners from the exchange points back to the race site (Lake Robbins Drive & Six Pines Drive). Teams are not required to check in together prior to the race. Shuttle vans will begin running at 7:30 AM and are expected to depart every 20-25 minutes. Please arrive to the area with enough time to park and make your way to the exchange point.

 

Finisher Medals - Each team's final runner will receive their medal as they cross the finish line. The Finish line medal attendants will be available to help other team members obtain their medals. Once the Relay is complete, medals will be released to other members.

 

Joining your team member at the finish line - The Woodlands Marathon Management will not be held responsible for runners being back to the finish line to meet their team members for run in. Each team should come up with their unique location to meet up after the finish. There are several locations to choose from; The Amegy Bank Results Zone, the Beer Garden, Front of Town Green Park, or the Food & Beverage Tents, the back of the Marriott. Please discuss a meeting location with your team members before race day to make sure everyone is in agreement on the location. Relay Team Members may run in together; they will need to stay single file and wait until they are upon the finish line before coming together. Please respect the individual runners on the course.

THE WOODLANDS 5K FUN RUN

The Woodlands Marathon is once again hosting an annual 5k Run. Individuals are invited to run or walk the 5K course that will traverse the streets of Town Center headed north on Six Pines and returning to the common start/finish line. The event will start and finish on Lake Robbins Drive in front of the Market Street parking garage to cheering spectators. Registration is currently set to close at 1000 participants for the 5K Run, however, this is subject to change.

 

5K RUN DETAILS:
  • Start Time: 7:00 AM
  • Entry Fees: $38 in January - February 28, and $43 at the Expo

 

Each 5K Run athlete will receive a swag bag with an official 5K Run "ASICS" Technical shirt (registered by 2/17/15), an official finisher's certificate, a custom bib number with name (registered by January 1), a commemorative finisher's medal, access to Post Race Party with food, the Health and Fitness Expo, and photo proofs crossing the finish line. Participants in The Woodlands Marathon 5K must be 9 years of age by March 5, 2016. Athletes younger than 9 years of age will need a parent request to participate in the 5K Run, and upon review the Race Director may grant approval.

 

2K FUN RUN/WALK

The annual Woodlands Marathon 2K Fun Run/Walk is held the day before the other Woodlands Marathon events. The Fun Run/Walk is intended for children ages 3 to 13, however all ages are welcome to participate. The entry fee for The Woodland Marathon 2K is only $27 in January - February 28, and $32 at the Expo. Registration is currently set to close at 800 participants for the 2K Fun Run Walk, however, that is subject to change. Race packets may be picked up on March 4, 2016 at the Health and Wellness Expo.

 

Woodlands Marathon 2K Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a swag bag containing an official 2K Fun Run/Walk t-shirt (registered by 2/15/16), a participant bib, a commemorative finisher's medal, access to Post Race Party with food, the Health and Fitness Expo, and photo proofs crossing the finish line. All participants must be 3 years of age by March 4, 2016. Athletes younger than 3 years of age will need a parent request to participate in the 5K Run, and upon review the Race Director may grant approval. Parents will be allowed to run with their children.

 

All athletes will have an opportunity to drop their pre-race and post-race belongings at the bag drop/gear check. Athletes will reclaim their belongings at the post race zone. In consideration for the safety of all participants, baby joggers, skateboards, bikes and animals are prohibited on the course. Headphones are not prohibited but are strongly discouraged. Participants who wear headphones must remain aware of race officials, traffic and other runners. Any participant who fails to follow directions from race officials is subject to being removed from the racecourse, for their own safety and the safety of other participants.
