Spring Break The Woodlands

The Woodlands Township has created these day camps, which are designed to give students something to do during their Spring Break from school! All camps will be held at the Recreation Center, Monday - Friday, March 12 - 16. Spaces will fill up fast, be sure to sign up soon!

            Day Camps for Kids

kids programs for spring break in the woodlandsBuilding Brains Lego Camp - Kids ages 5 - 10 will build simple machines using gears, levers and pulleys then motorize the machines using LEGO and K'NEX educational kits, under the guidance of instructors from Building Brains. Campers will compete to build the best design. Be sure to pack a lunch, two snacks, water bottle, tennis shoes and sunscreen. Camp is 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM at the Recreation Center. FEE: $365 per child, with a $25 sibling discount for each additional child for full day camp for residents, $375 per child for non-residents. Half-day camp is also available from 9:00 AM - Noon for $225 per resident child, $235 for non-residents.

Swing Into Spring - This two-day golf camp that teaches kids in grades 1 - 5 grip, stance, swing, sportsmanship and golf course knowledge. Your kids enjoy learning in a fun social environment. All equipment provided; camp instructed by TGA North Houston. FEE: $90 per child for residents, $100 for non-residents, plus $20 supply fee per child. Sunny Dayz Camp - Each day of Sunny Dayz Day Camp has a new and different theme! Sunny Dayz Camp is for ages 6 to 12, is held from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM each day at the Recreation Center. The FEE for Sunny Dayz is $50 per day, per child, with a $10 sibling discount. Register for all five days and recieve an additional $20 discount!

On Monday, the theme is Music Monday - Bring your favorite CD or iPod and jam out to all your favorite tunes during "Freeze Dance" and a dance off! Campers will even get to make a musical splash with water limbo and dancing. End the day with Camp Karaoke and a special treat! On Tuesday, Toy Tuesday - It's all about toys! Bring your favorite toy for Show n' Tell and then play with all the fun toys at the rec center. Camp will even have a toy water gun fight, so don't forget your swimsuit! Campers will earn "Toy Tokens" for good behavior throughout the day and get a chance to visit The Township Toy Store, where campers can pick out a special toy to take home. Wednesday is Wild Wednesday - Campers will paint with pudding, have a worm eating contest, shaving cream and water balloon fight, and go on a scavenger hunt through the "wild"erness! Be sure to pack an extra pair of clothes for Wild Wednesday! Treat Thursday - Thursday will be full of lots of treats! We'll start the day playing "Fruit Salad" and even enjoy fruit salad for breakfast; campers will get to make a giant ice cream sundae and compete in a cookie decorating contest, and the end day with a special treat and a trip down the slip n'slide! Finally, Friday is Freaky Friday - Freaky Friday is going to be a blast! Campers will make slime and a volcano, write a message in invisible ink, tie dye and play a surprise water game! Campers need to bring their own white shirts, shorts, sheets, pillow cases and more to tie dye!

Spring Break Karate Camp - The Karate School is offering an all-day karate camp from 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM for school-aged kids. Students will receive four karate lessons and four field trips along with other fun activities at The Karate School. Just remember to pack a lunch and snacks as camp is all day! The Karate School is located at 8000 Research Forest Drive (the Alden Bridge Shopping Center). For more information, call 281 292-0225. Cost is $180 per child.

The YMCA Spring Break Camp will be held at the South Montgomery County Creekside YMCA Adventure Center, located at 6464 Creekside Forest Drive, The Woodlands 77389. This camp is designed as mini-day camp program providing lots of outdoor activities for school age children during their Spring Break. Camp hours are 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM for children ages 5 – 12 (age as of 9/01/11). Each day features a new theme and is packed with traditional outdoor camp activities. Themes include Animal Kingdom, Y Sports, Getting Dirty, Studio Arts Camp and Discovery Camp. Camp activities may include, weather permitting, hiking, canoeing, archery, challenge course, games, climbing wall, arts/crafts and much more. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, backpack, and wear appropriate shoes for outdoor adventures. Pre-registration is required for Spring Break Camp. Spring Break Staycation at the YMCA

The YMCA is open to the community during Spring Break Week and the schedule is filled with a variety of free activities for all ages! Load up the kids and head over to the YMCA for Spring Break Staycation. Your Passport to Free Family Fun includes family fitness classes, ZumbaTomic for kids, open swim, dive-in movie, open gym, family adventure day, movie under the stars, moonwalk, climbing wall, family campout, summer job fair, Midnight March Madness and much more! In addition to all the special activities, the community is also invited during spring break week to experience all the benefits of a YMCA membership including the wellness center, climbing wall, fitness classes, swimming pools and gymnasiums.

Saturday, March 10 - Family Adventure Day at the Creekside YMCA, from 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Families are invited to experience nature, challenge the 50 foot alpine tower, archery, canoeing and much more.

Sunday, March 11 - Spend time together as a family, splashing in the pools or challenging new heights on the climbing wall.

Monday, March 12 - Swimming is available all day long at the Shadowbend Pool, a variety of family fitness classes including Family Zumba Class at 10:45 AM and Family Water Aerobics at 7:30 PM. Also, open gym available with volleyball at Branch Crossing and basketball at Shadowbend from 5:30 – 7:30 PM.

Tuesday, March 13 - Try Family Zumba class at 9:45 AM and 5:45 PM at the Shadowbend YMCA, and a dive in movie at the Shadowbend Pool at 7:00 PM. The featured movie is Little Mermaid II.

Wednesday, March 14 - Highlights include a climbing wall at both Branch Crossing and Shadowbend YMCAs from 9:00 AM – Noon and 5:00 – 8:00 PM, and Open Swim all day at the Shadowbend Pool. Kids ages 5+ are invited to join the ZumbaTomic class at 6:45 PM.

Thursday, March 15 - Open swim is available all day at the Shadowbend Y Pool and Midnight March Madness, for ages 13 and older, will feature a 3 on 3 tournament, slam dunk contest, free throw and 3 point shooting contest from 9:00 PM – Midnight at the Shadowbend YMCA gym.

Friday, March 16 - A full day, including a Summer Job Fair from Noon – 3:00 PM for ages 16 and older at the Shadowbend YMCA and Branch Crossing YMCA. Then the evening features family movie night under the stars. Featured presentation is G Force. Activities begin at 6:00 PM with outdoor cooking including s'mores and banana boats in the outdoor fireplace. The annual Spring Break overnight campout at the Creekside YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center is also scheduled for March 16th beginning at 6:00 PM. There is limited space, and pre-registration required for the campout. Families must bring their own tents.

Saturday, March 17 - The Spring Break Staycation fun concludes with open swim available at both Shadowbend and Branch Crossing pools. There will be a variety of activities with a St. Patrick's Day theme, so don't forget to wear your green!

In addition to the complimentary community activities, the YMCA will also be offering a variety of fee-based programs that require pre-registration. Join the fun and try something new at the YMCA! Fee-based activities include Climbing Clinics for ages 5 - 9, Soccer Clinics for ages 5 – 12, a Lifeguard Certification Class for ages 16 and older, Swim Clinicsfor ages 6 – 12.
