The 4th of July provides a chance to rekindle your patriotic spirit and, of course, show your national pride the entire holiday week. While traditional celebrations like fireworks displays and cookouts are always fun, there are other ways to celebrate the birth of America. Spend the holiday week in Town Center - The festivities begin the weekend before July 4th at Waterway Square from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Saturday, June 30, wrapping up the "Waterway Nights" series presented by The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau. Enjoy live entertainment and the beautiful Fountains at Waterway Square! Blankets, chairs, coolers and picnics welcomed. On Tuesday evening, head on over to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for the Houston Symphony's Star Spangled Salute. |
The pre-concert activities begin at 6:30 PM. Bring a friend, family, kids, co-worker or even a date as well as something to eat to this FREE event and take in the sights and sounds of the Houston Symphony led by conductor Michael Krajewski. Enjoy traditional patriotic favorites, an old-fashioned Texas sing along and a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky's famed 1812 Overture, complete with cannons on the hill. Puffy Pine Cone, lovable mascot of The Woodlands, will make a special appearance and will be available for free photos from 7:00 - 8:00 PM. |
Next up, the Independence Day Parade at Market Street, beginning at 9:00 AM on July 4. The parade will start at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, proceed south on Grogan's Mill, then east on Lake Robbins drive before entering Market Street. After a lap around Central Park, the parade will exit to the north on Lake Woodlands Drive then proceed west, finally turning back south on Grogan's Mill to return to the church. Come 4th of July, escape the heat in the middle of the day and cool off at Splash Days in any one of The Woodlands Community Pools. Summer fun is waiting for you at one of The Woodlands' 13 aquatic facilities with special themes, complimentary refreshments & scheduled activities from Noon - 4:00 PM at each pool. Free swimming is all day, from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM. Returning for the second year to the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center is The 2012 Entergy Duck Race, benefiting the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Programs. Ducks can be adopted for $5.00 each or $25.00 for a Quack Pack of six. The ducks will slide at 3:00 PM and winners will be awarded fabulous prizes from a variety of local merchants! Take in the FREE 4th of July Concert in The Park at Northshore Park. More information can be found on our calendar. Bring a blanket, picnic dinner and lawn chairs to enjoy leisure time with your family! Northshore Park offers plenty of lawn space for tossing balls and Frisbees, a large playground, two sand volleyball courts and picnic areas with grills. Bring your fishing poles, too, 'cause you can keep your catch at Northshore Park. The 4th of July Concert in the Park is the conclusion of the Summer season but don't fret; they return again in the Fall, beginning in October. All bands are family-friendly, and the lineup caters to a variety of tastes. |

After you've cooled off at Splash Days, it's time to head on out to Town Center and enjoy the Red, Hot and Blue Festival & Fireworks Extravaganza. The festival begins at Town Green Park and continues down The Woodlands Waterway to Waterway Square Park. This year, The Red, Hot & Blue Celebration will be action packed from start to finish. At Town Green Park the Hot Dog and Watermelon Eating Contests get underway at 6:15. Bring your family and friends out for a day filled with live music, face painting, strolling performers, games, the hot dog and watermelon and eating contests, vendor booths, concessions and much more. The 15th Annual Red, Hot & Blue Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in designated areas. |

When the sun goes down, witness one of the largest fireworks displays in the greater Houston area. The Red, Hot and Blue Fireworks Extravaganza is set to start at 9:30 pm. The fireworks will shoot off near the Anadarko Building on the shore of Lake Robbins to create a bigger and better-than-ever display of pageantry and color. The best fireworks viewing location is at Waterway Square; see map below for other prime viewing areas. |

6:00 am - Earliest volunteers arrive 6:30 am - Setup of check-in booths, staging lot and judging area begins 7:00 am - WCSC open for dignitaries 7:00 am - Commercial floats arrive, locate along Lake Woodlands Drive 7:25 am - Golf Carts arrive: 2 at staging lot, 2 for general & water distribution 7:30 am - Refreshments arrive at WCSC for dignitaries 7:35 am - Constable barricade of Lake Woodlands Drive @ Lake Front Circle begins 8:00 am - Character and DJ entertainment begins 8:30 am - Sheriff barricade of streets begins 8:45 am - Judges relocate to judging stand, dignitaries relocate to their assigned vehicles 8:50 am - "line-up" on Lake Woodlands Drive begins at Grogan's Mill Road 8:55 am - Marine M/C's make 'sweep' of parade route 9:00 am - Parade starts at Grogan's Mill Road and Lake Woodlands Drive 9:20 am - 9:25 am– First elements of parade arrive at judging stand 9:20am - First elements of parade arrive at Market Street 9:45 am - Last elements of parade exit staging lot; first elements of parade arrive at staging lot, may re-enter or immediately depart area by going northbound on Grogan's Mill Road. Westbound on Lake Woodlands will be available as parade clears staging lot exit. 10:00 am - Last elements of parade clear Grogan's Mill Road (at Lake Robbins), returning elements of parade may now go Southbound on Grogan's Mill Road. 10:30 am - Parade ends: last elements of parade arrive at staging lot 11:00 am - Clean up: Gro-tech removes trash & recycle bins. Sweeper & Boy Scouts clean streets & staging lot. |
