The Woodlands Waterway Square officially opened on April 12, 2008 and was celebrated with a festival of lights and music. Waterway Square features a unique, 120 foot water-wall, adorned with dancing columns of water, next to a cascading waterfall enhanced by "boomer" jets of water capable of rising more than 60 feet into the air.

The one-acre facility is The Woodlands' most unique park, and serves as the "centerpiece" of The Woodlands. Various restaurants, entertainment venues, and retail outlets frame The Fountains at Waterway Square, creating an active setting throughout the day. The Waterway Square Fountains features a show choreographed with light and sound every 15 minutes during the evening hours that is not to be missed!

The children's play area at Waterway Square Park features an interactive splash fountain, with 34 choreo-jets enhanced with the colored lights and six laminar flow jets. This fountain features a mosaic called "Treasures from Grandma's Purse."

The fountains are synchronized to various musical tunes played via seven speakers on the upper level, and 12 speakers on the lower playing four times an hour. For the audiophiles in our audience, the 19 area speakers are powered by 4,250 watts of power supplied by five amplifiers, to create the surround-sound musical accompaniment of the Waterway Fountains. There are 260 kinetic lights, a.k.a. LEDs (light emitting diodes), in four colors that can be combined to create all the colors of the rainbow throughout the fountains.

The plaza at Waterway Square is a great place to have lunch or dinner. The musical selections at the fountains vary depending on the time of year and around certain holidays. The shows run between noon and 2:00 PM, then 6:00 and 11:00 PM on weekdays, and noon to 11:00 PM on weekends at 15 minute intervals. The Fountains at Waterway Square standard song list includes a rotating list of musical selections, including such well-known songs like, I Swear, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, When You Say Nothing At All, Smooth, Your Song, Billie Jean, Candle In The Wind, Fly Me To The Moon, The Prayer, and Time To Say Goodbye, among others we are used to hearing:
