The Buzz Along The Waterway

Construction on 4 Waterway Square Place, an elegant, Class A office building with a unique multi-tiered design has been completed. The building offers the convenience of a covered walkway to the recently completed Waterway Square Parking Garage that fronts on Lake Robbins Drive (1505 Lake Robbins Drive) between Fountain Plaza and Woodloch Court. A large portion of the retail space in the Waterway Square Parking Garage is being built out for the Northside Fiat car dealership, the first in the area. Construction on 5 Waterway Square Place, across Fountain Plaza from 4 Waterway Square Place, is expected to begin in late 2011 or early 2011. It, too, will be Class A office space.

In the Dining & Entertainment Sector of The Waterway District, expansion continues. Future plans for the area include a new boutique Waterway Hotel, a luxury condominium tower, and an additional Waterway Tower Office Building to complete the corner of Waterway Square Place and Lake Robbins Drive. Further to the south, between Waterway Avenue and Woodloch Forest Drive (south of Timberloch Place) construction has been completed (US Oncology) with an adjacent parking garage.
Waterway Avenue north of The Waterway began filling in nicely in 2009. Hubbell & Hudson Market & Bistro at 24 Waterway celebrated their first year at the end of 2009. Rio 24 Cigar Bar also opened their doors (briefly) next to the Hubbell & Hudson Bistro, and Kita Japanese & Sushi filled out the Waterway Avenue-facing side of 24 Waterway in late 2010. Additionally, the Hubbell and Hudson Kitchen is now open at the north corners of two Villages - Panther Creek and Cochran's Crossing - at the intersection of Gosling Road and Research Forest Drive. Across the street from the H&H Market & Bistro, Berripop Frozen Yogurt opened a boutique shop next door to Baker Street Pub, and Stir Crazy, a fresh Asian restaurant opened next to them in April, 2011 at 25 Waterway.

Waterway Restaurants

Just up the street from Hubbell and Hudson, at 20 Waterway, Crush Wine Bar and Grimaldi's Pizzeria are open for business. Crush Wine Bar features a rooftop patio with cabana style seating arrangements and wonderful views of Waterway Square Park. Below, Grimaldi's Pizzeria occupies the Park level and a portion of the street level bringing a coal-fired oven restaurant to The Waterway. Grimaldi's is expanding their coal-fired concept to include burgers in the second-half of 2011, adding Coal Burger at street level next to Grimaldi's. Just around the corner, the Which Wich Sandwich Shop on Lake Robbins Drive is open for business next door to Woodforest National Bank at the entrance to The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.

The Goose's Acre and America's, both with patio seating right on The Waterway. Both The Goose's Acre and America's are split-level, with street level access on Waterway Avenue. America's features the 1492 Lounge upstairs with semi-private, lush seating areas. At 25 Waterway, Baker Street Pub, also known as Sherlock's Pub, has ample outdoor seating and tables along Waterway Avenue, and features live music several nights a week. Baker Street Pub is an authentic English pub complete with a large selection of draught beers and ales. Directly across Waterway Avenue sits Kita Japanese, a Sushi bar which opened in late 2010.
Prospects for new restaurants along The Waterway are shaping up nicely, with three new venues anticipated; Yucatan Taco Stand and Tequila Bar, Luca & Leonardo, and La Lupita (the latter two with a shared kitchen) all expected to open in 2011.
The Woodlands Pavilion successfully re-emerged after Hurricane Ike wrecked havoc in September 2008, featuring a larger canvas covering and additional seating in time for the 2009 Concert Season. Click here for more information on the upgrades at The Woodlands Pavilion.
