Open from November 21, 2015 through January 18, 2016, the coolest place to be in the Winter is The Ice Rink At The Woodlands Town Center, one of the largest seasonal ice rinks in the southwest.
The ice rink is located at the northeast corner of Six Pines Drive and Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands Town Center. The indoor facility (tent) houses skate rental, an observation area with chairs and tables, and two rinks; the main rink for general use is more than 7600 square feet, and a smaller, 256 square foot rink is available for the little skaters, ages five and under.
The Woodlands Ice Skating Rink and 'Christmas Light Display at Town Center' is once again at it's original address at the northeast corner of Lake Robbins Drive and Six Pines Drive for the holiday season and is expected to continue at this location in the foreseeable future. The skating rink was previously located at a temporary location behind the Town Center Parking Garage and The Woodlands Pavilion while the grass field at the original address was getting paved with asphalt. The site now primarily functions as a parking lot as well as a location for other (typically) single-day events in Town Center. The ice rink is easily within walking distance of Market Street and Cinemark Tinseltown.

On June 18, 2015, The Woodlands Township Board of Directors authorized its President/General Manager Don Norrell to execute a Project Development and Joint Use Agreement with The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for a shared use building that will hold The Ice Rink during the winter months and the House of Blues Hospitality Venue throughout the rest of the year. The 21,000 square-foot facility will be built where the existing House of Blues Hospitality Venue is located on the northwest side of The Pavilion. The sheet of ice is expected to be similar in size (60' x 120') to the annual temporary ice rink. The total cost of the multi-use structure is estimated at $4.9 million, with The Woodlands Township funding half of the construction costs. The Township will also pay 100 percent of the cost of the ice making equipment, the cost of which is estimated to be $562,000 for a total estimated cost to the Township of approximately $3 million. The Ice Rink has been in existence for 15 years on a temporary basis, and this will now be a permanent home from November through January. Other ice uses are possible in the facility in February and part of March. Construction is expected to begin late in 2015. The facility is expected to open in May 2016 for The Pavilion's entertainment season, and in November 2016 for Township use for ice skating.
