In addition to programs for preschoolers, there are a number of activities and events that are sponsored by the Township throughout the year for elementary and middle-school aged children. Unless otherwise noted, all activities and programs are held at the Recreation Center, located adjacent to Bear Branch Park at 5200 Research Forest Drive in Cochran's Crossing. All events and activities presented by The Woodlands Township Parks & Recreation Department that require a fee can be paid online at their registration page. PSAT/SAT Prep Course - Prepare your high school-aged (grades 9-12) student for the PSAT/SAT with highly effective strategies for all three sections (verbal, math, and writing). Your child’s confidence will skyrocket when they learn the correct way to approach the problems. Vocabulary words and real SAT practice problems will be administered. Instructor has more than 12 years experience with the SAT and ACT. Pencil, calculator (preferably scientificfiic calculator) and official SAT study guide, second edition are required. Classes meet on Wednesdays, August 25 - October 6, from 6:00 - 7:00 PM, with a review session on October 8. This class held at 8203 Millennium Forest Drive, Building II (See Map Below). Building Brains - LEGO® - Kids in the 1st and 2nd grade will learn to build simple machines using gears, levers and pulleys and then motorize the machines using LEGO® and K’NEX educational kits and curriculum while building math and science skills. Class also includes competition challenges to build the best design. Class instructor Kim Koenig of BuildingBrains can be reached at 713-204-0770 for more information. Art Afterschool - City ArtWorks offers fun, engaging, hands-on classes for kids ages 6 - 13 that center on
specific artists and art periods each semester. Classes are held on Mondays, October 4 - December 13 from 4:00 - 5:00 PM and are open to young artists of all skill levels. Call 713-681-1331 for more information. FEE: $150, includes all art supplies, instruction, and a student portfolio.
Double Dare Challenge - Children ages 7 - 10 will double dare each other to come out and compete in the first-ever Double Dare Challenge! Competitions will include slime, water, pudding and more! Prizes will be awarded. Kids will want to wear a bathing suit and shoes/clothes you don’t mind getting messy, and don’t forget a towel! Pizza and drinks included. The Double Dare Challenge goes down at the Lodge at Rob Fleming Park on Friday, September 10, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. FEE: $15 per child.

Taught by 3StarIce, This three-stage, roller-hocky camp is an exciting and fun-filled way to learn a new and challenging sport.
Learn to Play Inline Hockey I - This camp is for children ages 5 - 10 with little to no inline hockey experience. Students will learn correct inline skating techniques, including balance, stopping, starting forwards/backwards, turning and other developmental skills. Be aware of the equipment required: helmet, shin pads, elbow pads, gloves and a hockey stick; as limited equipment is available. Sessions are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week, September 14 - September 30. Participants may choose to attend from 4:00 - 5:00 PM or 5:30 - 6:30 PM. FEE: $100 for residents, $125 for non-residents.
Learn to Play Inline Hockey II - This camp is for children ages 5 - 10 with little to no inline hockey experience. Students will review skills learned in Inline Hockey I, and learn new skills, including moving stick handling, forehand and backhand passing and receiving, turning, using feet to control puck and stopping with the puck. Be aware that the same equipment is required for LPIH II as LPIH I. Sessions are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week, October 5 - October 21. Participants may choose to attend from 4:00 - 5:00 PM or 5:30 - 6:30 PM. FEE: $100 for residents, $125 for non-residents.
Learn to Play Inline Hockey III - This camp is for children ages 7 - 10 with some inline hockey experience. Students will get a complete overview of Hockey I and II and engage in fast-paced drills, skill-building exercises and scrimmages. Be aware that the same equipment is required for LPIH III as LPIH I and II. Sessions are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week, October 26 - November 11. Participants may choose to attend from 4:00 - 5:00 PM or 5:30 - 6:30 PM. FEE: $100 for residents, $125 for non-residents.

Book Buddies Clubhouse - Designed for children ages 4 - 7, be sure to call and book your slot seven days in advance. FEE: $115 per child, includes all materials. Register for two sessions and receive a $25 discount; three sessions, a $50 discount. Siblings registered at the same time receive a $25 discount. Classes taught by Texas-certified teacher. All sessions are from 4:30 - 6:30 PM.
Sight and Sounds - This session of Book Buddies Clubhouse will be held on Tuesdays, September 21 - November 16 (no class on October 26). This session will assist students with phonics of the alphabet. This program is best suited for students that have been introduced to the alphabet.
I Can Read - This session of Book Buddies Clubhouse will be held on Wednesdays, September 22 - November 17. This session is for beginning readers. It focuses on sight words and simple sentence reading. This program is best suited for students that have a strong knowledge of the alphabet and phonics.
I Can Write - This session of Book Buddies Clubhouse will be held on Thursdays, September 23 - November 18. This session is for early readers that want to write simple stories. Students
will use sight words and simple one subject pictures to start stories. This program is best suited for students that can read simple sentences and have strong knowledge of sight words.

Spooky Science - On Mondays, October 4 - 25 from 5:00 - 6:15 PM, children (ages 5 - 10) are sure to have a SPOOKtacular time participating in fun and educational “spooky science” experiments. Explore optical illusions, use the science of sound to create “howling cups” and “screaming balloons,” make Halloween slime, BOO bubbles, and more! Children will be able to take home a set of supplies/instructions for some of the experiments to repeat them at home for mom and dad! FEE: $80 per child.
Frankenstein Friday - A haunted hour full of goblin games and spooky snacks! Young Frankensteins ages 6 - 10 will play Halloween games, make a spooktacular craft and enjoy a terrifying, yet terrific snack on Friday, October 15 from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. FEE: $12 per child.

Hook, Line, Sinker - On Saturday, November 6 from 8:00 - 10:00 AM, Park Rangers will teach children ages 5 - 14 the basics of fishing, including how to tie up a line, bait a hook and catch a fish at Creekwood Park. Parents are welcome to join in the fun! Fishing poles are needed. FEE: $20 per family of four for residents, $25 per family of four for non-residents.
Teddy Bear Tea - What better way to show your teddy how much you love them! Children ages 4 - 8 will enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, decorate their own tea cup and play a teddy bear game at the Lodge at Rob Fleming Park. Kids, don’t forget to bring your best bear friend! The "tea" flows on Saturday, November 20 at 11:00 AM. FEE: $15 per child.
Santa's Workshop - Kids ages 6 - 10, come to the Recreation Center and make a gift for your loved ones! Kids will construct it, wrap it and get it ready to go under the tree. The elves get busy on Friday, December 17 at 4:00 PM. FEE: $12 per child.
Pajama Party - Kids ages 6 - 10, put on your pj’s and grab your pillow and blanket, and join the party at the Recreation Center! You’ll watch a movie and enjoy pizza and popcorn, decorate a pillowcase and play slumber party games! The pillow-fight breaks out on Friday, January 14, from 6:30 - 9:30 PM. FEE: $15 per child.

Youth Golf Lessons - These private lessons given by Choice Tee are held rain or shine, the driving range is covered and offers an automatic tee-up system to focus on stance, grip and swing. Geared for budding golfers ages 6 and older, also includes unlimited range balls, swing analysis equipment, golf rules and golf etiquette. Classes available for beginners to advanced. In a little more laid-back atmosphere, aspiring golfers can take in Turkey Birdie Golf Camp, a one-day, fun-filled mini camp for kids ages 1st - 5th grade that covers golf basics and will help each child learn their set up and swing fundamentals. Equipment is limited, please bring your own club if possible. Balls are included. Turkey Birdie Golf Camp is Saturday, November 13 from 9:30 AM - Noon at the Recreation Center. Fee: $50 per child for residents, $60 non-resident, plus $15 supply fee.
You can also get some shopping done on Saturday, December 11 from 9:30 AM - Noon while your kids enjoy a round of golf at the Reindeer Round Up Golf Camp at the Recreation Center.Your child will learn golf skills in a fun and positive environment. Equipment is limited, please bring your own club if possible. Balls are included. Fee: $50 per child for residents, $60 non-resident, plus $15 supply fee.
Shred Skateboard Camp - Held at the largest skateboard park in The Woodlands at Bear Branch Park, this beginner camp for skaters ages 7 - 12 will help skaters learn the basics to become a pro skater. Helmets and knee pads are mandatory! Sessions held on Saturdays, September 25 - October 16 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Fee: $50 each child for residents, $55 each child for non-residents.

Innovative Game Group – P.E. for Homeschoolers - Kids ages 8 - 14 will play Capture the flag, “500,” Hide and Seek and games galore! This unique physical education program will engage your child in activities that involve fun and fitness. Instruction provided by a former CISD teacher. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 - 11:30 AM. Two sessions - September 7 - October 14 and October 19 - December 2 (No classes the week of November 22). FEE:$100 per child, $75 each additional sibling.
Baton Twirling - Girls ages 6 and up can learn basic twirling skills while enhancing hand-eye coordination and gain confidence and self-esteem under the direction of champion twirler Sue Young. Batons will be available at the first class of each session. Two sessions to choose from, held from 5:00 - 5:45 PM on Wednesdays, September 8 - October 6 and again October 20 - November 17. Fee: $70 per child for residents, $80 for non-residents.
Star Gymnastics - Enter your child ages 6 - 10 in gymnastics to develop the fundamentals of performance exercise. This program is developed to train both the mind and coordination, balance, and grace. Four sessions to choose from on Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:00 PM; September 9 - 30, October 7 - 28, November 4 - December 2 (no class on November 25) and December 9 - 30. Basket-Ballerz - Advance your child’s knowledge of the fundamental skills of basketball, including dribbling, ball-handling, passing and shooting. These sessions are designed for children ages 5 - 8. There are three sessions to choose from, all held on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Dates are September 8 - 29, October 6 - 27 and November 3 - December 1 (no class held on November 24). Fee: $50 per child for residents, $60 per child for non-residents.
Fury Sluggers - Held on Tuesdays, from 5:00 - 6:00 PM at the Alden Bridge Sports Park, Little sluggers ages 7 - 10 will learn the fundamentals of baseball including hitting and pitching from a professional coach. Participants must bring their own mitt and bat. Select from two sessions September 14 - October 5 or October 19 - November 9. Fee: $75 for residents, $85 for non-residents.

Fencing - Sign up now and join the fun! Meeting twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, classes will be divided by age/experience level into two groups, Beginners/Musketeers (using foil and sabre) and Intermediate/Mixed age. In the first month, all equipment will be provided. Class is instructed by Bayou City Fencing, serving the greater Houston area and The Woodlands since 1994. Fencing is for children ages 6 & up. Choose to attend once or twice each week. Musketeers from 4:30 - 5:30 PM on Tuesdays and 1:00 - 2:00 PM on Saturdays. FEE: 1x/wk: $100 per month for residents, 2x/wk: $140 per month for residents. Intermediate from 6:30 - 8:30 PM on Tuesdays (using foil and sabre), 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM (foil only) or 2:00 - 3:30 PM (sabre only) on Saturdays. Karate/Tae Kwon Do - Children ages 5 and older can be instructed by Travis Lee Everitt, a seventh-degree black belt with 42 years martial arts experience and seven years teaching at the Recreation Center. His self-defense program includes blocking, kicking and punching techniques along with kicking combinations with form drills. Classes will meet on Thursdays, with Beginners (ages 5 - 12 white belt) from 4:30 - 5:15 PM, Intermediate (any age, yellow/orange belts) from 5:15 - 6:00 PM and Advanced (any age, green belts+) from 6:00 - 6:45 PM. Homeschool Ballet, Jazz & Tap - Join anytime! An introductory class specifically made with the homeschooler in mind. Children ages 5 - 10 will have fun exploring ballet and proper technique at the barré and center floor. Enjoy classical jazz taught to fun kid music and great American classics! Coed Cheerleading - Classes for boys and girls ages 5 - 12 encompass cheers, chants, jumps, dances, beginner stunts, and basic tumbling.
